SUNDAY SCHOOL

Sunday School has been formed with the idea of enlightening young minds on spiritual topics. It is said in the Srimad-Bhagavatam that right from a very young age children should be raised and trained in spiritual knowledge. The second aim of the school is to make the classes fun and interesting so that the children will want to come to class each week.

Our teachers are all practising bhakti yoga and have extensive work experience necessary for understanding and teaching these spiritual topics.

We have age appropriate classes for children from 5 to 15 years. The program is based on the Hare Krishna Sunday School Curriculum, which has been used successfully in Alachua, USA (where the large community of devotees live in the western world) for many years. The content is specially designed by experienced devotee professionals and well acclaimed by all parents.

The curriculum we use and teach helps students with practical ways to apply Krishna Consciousness to their daily lives. It helps answer important questions like “Who am I”, “Where did I come from” and “Why practise vegetarianism”. All lessons are taught through fun and interactive ways like stories, quizzes, games, drama, movies, arts & craft.

 Another benefit of the school is that we see the children become really good friends and you will often see them playing together around the temple.

The program has been running successfully for more than 10 years now. We started with a humble single digit number of children and have grown to more than 50 children. Each year, the Sunday school team also put on a special Kid’s Janmastami program to celebrate Krishna’s birthday. The idea is to pass on the rich spiritual messages from Bhagavad-Gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam in children to enable them lead a meaningful life.

Education of children was especially dear to ISKCON’s Founder Acharya, Srila Prabhupada, who inspired the first ISKCON Gurukula for children in the early 1970’s in the USA. Indeed Srila Prabhupada would say many a time that these children are very fortunate and are not ordinary children. He stressed the importance of teaching the children from an early age in Krishna consciousness.
